Apple's iPhone 14 series was introduced in September 2022, which for the first time included a feature to send emergency SOS messages via satellite, aimed at saving lives in dire situations.
So far, this feature has helped save many lives in the US and now it has helped save 2 women in Canada as well.
This feature makes it possible to send text messages without a cellular signal or Wi-Fi.
2 women trapped in a remote area near McBride, a village in British Columbia, Canada, were rescued by this feature.
It was the first time that this new Apple feature saved a life in Canada.
According to media reports, on December 23, these two women were going to Alberta and one of them was carrying an iPhone 14.
On the way, the highway was closed due to an accident, due to which they decided to take an alternate route.
But she lost her way on the alternative road while her car got stuck due to snowfall.
According to Dwight Yochim, senior manager of the British Columbia Rescue Team, after the vehicle stopped, the women encountered a wall of ice and were trapped there.
These women tried to leave but to no avail as mobile services were not available.
On this occasion, a woman sent a message for help using the iPhone 14's satellite feature.
Dwight Yochim said that a message was received by Apple's call center after using the SOS feature.
The Apple call center contacted Northern 911 who called us and provided the women's GPS location and other details, he said.
With the help of these details, the rescue team found the women, pulled the vehicle out of the snow and sent them to the destination.
Dwight Yochim said that without this technology, the search for the women could have lasted a week, during which their lives could have been in danger.
